September means it’s Spring down under.
The beginning of a new season has everyone thinking about a cleanse, whether it’s cleaning out their wardrobes or diet. For me, it’s a great time to juice cleanse.
I’m not new to cleansing I do about 3 a year, and personally I really love the results.
I feel lighter, my head feels clearer, and I definitely notice an increase in energy post cleanse. However, I’m not going to lie, the 3 or 5 days when I’m actually “cleansing” are hard. I do feel hungry, often ending up snacking of some activated almonds and mash a small banana to get me through. Also exercising is out of the question for me whilst cleansing, I just don’t have the energy and I always prefer to cleanse over the weekend, otherwise I can be a little vague during work hours.
A lot of dietitians and nutritionists actually don’t recommend cleansing, commonly on the grounds that the digestive system operates every day to digest foods, and it doesn’t need any rest. So why do I cleanse?
For me, it’s a kick start. I find that within 3 days I see clear results and feel vitality, and that enables me to start a healthy eating and exercise regime that sticks.
Usually I do drop a kg or two, and although that may be water weight, it tricks my mind to continue with good habits to not undo the results I’ve achieved through cleansing.
If I’m feeling tired, sluggish, bloated, moody or lacking energy, I know it’s time for a cleanse.
If you are struggling with fatigue, digestion issues and not feeling like exercising, then a cleanse may also be right for you. When we get stuck in unhealthy diet patterns, often as a result of being busy, it leads to symptoms of body that needs a reboot. These unhealthy patterns includes; surviving on stimulants like caffeine to get you up in the morning, refined sugars and convenient processed foods. This offers us no real nutrition, and it could be time to cut out fake food and nourish your body.
If “juicing” is REALLY not your thing, then fair enough!
