Why Eyebrows Are Your Most Important Facial Feature
by Anna Lahey
I have a full on obsession with eyebrows. Thanks to marine collagen, I can live without makeup (foundations, bronzer, blush). But I never leave the house without doing my “brows”. Weird I know!
As it seems, I’m not alone. There’s an ever increasing “brow” trend appearing all over our glossy mags, Instagram accounts, runways and billboards. There’s a whole celebrity craze on the art of perfecting the brows. Cara Delevingne has shot to fame thanks to hers, and the likes of Lily Collins, Camilla Belle, Kiera Knightly, Emma Watson, Adele, Penelope Cruz and Sofia Vergara’s brows are also worth noting.
You would think that our most “stand-out” facial feature might be our eyes, nose or chin, but science says it’s the brows that hold highest face value. Beyond their function as a filter against dust, dirt and sweat that might get in our eyes, brows give us a strong and defined look.
With thanks to the brilliant, and I mean BRILLIANT Amy Jean, we can all achieve ‘Beautiful Brows’.
Amy Jean is the go – to Brow Queen and was dubbed the “Arch Angel” to the Stars by Vogue Magazine. Amy Jean and her team of sculptors work with your natural brow shape and carefully alters them to a flattering frame that defines the face.
In mid 2014 I had my eyebrows tattooed in time for my wedding. Yep, you read that right – tattooed. It’s not that I don’t have brows, I do. However, the terrible over – plucking in my adolescence years did cause some damage to the shape of my brows. I had “holes” in certain areas, and it did always bother me. So I decided to finally take action and I’m so glad I did.
I was definitely wary to begin with; I mean after all this was tattooing my face! However Amy’s before and after pics on her Instagram page are so amazing it’s hard to be too worried.
I visited Amy’s Sydney salon and from the moment I walked in I was at ease. The space is GORGEOUS with pretty wallpaper, styled perfectly and the scent of candles and professional service makes feel like you’re in a Parisian Palace Hotel.
Amy showed me what the end result would look like by drawing and I loved it. She understood exactly what I was looking for.
Her famous Feather Touch Brow Tattoo is a mirco-pigmenting technique that transforms sparse brows into perfectly symmetrical plush arches that frame the face. Unlike the harsh looking block tattooing, feather touch looks completely natural because it mimics real brow hairs, working with your existing hair line and colour.
Anaesthetic is applied, and I can honestly say I did not feel any pain, it wasn’t even uncomfortable. It felt like a mild scratching sensation. The first few days after the procedure my brows were quite dark, too dark. This is completely normal and within 2 weeks I was desperate to get them done again. Amy does this on purpose to see how your skin will react to the colour (how much pigment you’ll take) and everyone receives a complimentary touch up 6 – 8 weeks after the initial procedure to give you the perfect end result.
It’s been nearly 2 years since I’ve had my brows tattooed and I’m still thrilled with them. Retouches are recommended every 12 – 18 months, I haven’t really needed it yet however I will most likely go back and do some finishing touches soon.
I have continued to see Amy regularly, every 2 – 3 months for her other MUST HAVE treatment which I LOVE….. The Lash Lift!
This treatment is an instant ‘root lift’ for natural lashes, using a silicone mould to lengthen and curl lashes to perfection. It makes me look like I’ve had a lash extension, but they’re all mine with none of the added fuss. Just naturally long lashes.
Visit Amy’s website here and find out more on her wonderful services. I can’t recommend her highly enough, I love her work and she is pleasure to be with.
